Heyy Everyone,
Just back from a very busy week in Japan... landed a couple of days ago! We left straight from the recording studio in Wales and headed off to Tokyo, landing there on Wednesday last week, it was so hot and humid, a change from the UK! We ran into Frank Borin our video director at the airport, where he flew in from Los Angeles so we talked about the video we were making on the train into town. On the first night there went out with Ed’s family for his birthday, had an awesome meal involving food like rice in squid ink, sushi.. etc..! strange but cool! We then went and partied out in a bunch of clubs in Tokyo which was awesome too!
Thursday was lots of promotion with press and radio at our Japanese label, it was a little strange but fun trying to say things in japanese for the radio/tv stations etc! That night we went out and scouted out locations for our video around Tokyo, ...Of course we had to stop at bars along the way to check out the local culture, drink lots of saki... shochu... i think the night just gradually turned into Ed's birthday take 2...
Now... if your wondering what the recording, video and all the other stuff is for... then here goes...
We are releasing a track called “Discover (Why The Love Hurts)” really soon and we have made a video for it in Tokyo… We aren't going to tell you much more than that just yet, but the video should turn out awesome hopefully! came up with a load of cool ideas between us and our director frank and they all seemed to turn out good! Watch out for more announcements to come...!
The show on Friday at the Astro Hall was sold out a while back and was an amazing show, was so surreal to see we had fans over there! The whole crowd were going crazy for us and singing along to as many words as they could understand! We can’t wait to go back to play Tokyo and some other cities as soon as we can. The whole show was filmed by MTV Japan and also for our new music video. Straight after the video we hit the streets until really late and shot some more footage around Tokyo. All Jetlagged and completely out of time zones we had a Karaoke party on Saturday afternoon with some competition winners. Saturday night was full on video shooting all over Tokyo from late afternoon till the sun came up, a very long shoot! Many more stories about that to come but it was amazing, thanks so much to all of you who have got us to where we are, we are so grateful and can't wait for you guys to see the new video!
It took us a few days to recover from the shoot but in our last few days me (dan), Ed H, and our crew got in some site seeing around a bunch of temples and shrine's such as Odowara castle, Kamakura temple and a load of other places, took the bullet train to get there too which was pretty awesome! Meanwhile Alex, Ali and Ed caught up on some shopping around tokyo before we head home to York the following day. We went out on our last couple of nights in Tokyo again to a bunch of bars, clubs and karaoke bars, which made the flight back a little rough but whatever... made the most of it!
Anyway, our big October/November/December tour is coming up soon, still coming up with cool ideas for it, like which tracks to play (including a bunch of new tracks), merch design, stage setup, etc!! So far only Anberlin has been announced as a support act ( from the Ireland shows onwards) but will announce the other supports soon!
